Food detective: unraveling my gut health mystery

Hey everyone! It’s been some months since my last update, and wow, has life thrown some curveballs my way! But the good news? My gut issues are becoming clearer by the day, and I’m feeling hopeful and optimistic as I work through resolving them!

After some detective work with my diet and some culinary sleuthing, I’m feeling much better. Since August 2024, I’ve been on quite a medical adventure. Picture this: blood tests, ultrasounds, and a visit to the magical land of the gastroenterologist. I even had a gastroscopy and colonoscopy (yes, those sound scary, but I survived!) and consulted with yet another dietitian. The main result I found out is that I have a sucrase-isomaltase deficiency!

So, what’s next? I’m diving into a low-disaccharide diet! By sticking to this plan for a month and slowly reintroducing foods like sucrose, starch, and lactose, I hope to crack the code on what might be stirring the pot in my gut.

But here’s the twist: December and January are social gatherings central! With holiday gatherings galore, I figured it’s best to wait before starting this restrictive diet. Navigating my already limited food options during countless celebrations (and travelling on long-haul flights!) would be more of a mission than I’m ready for.

But now that the holiday rush is settling down, I’m pumped to kick off my low-disaccharide diet as we roll into 2025! I’d love to hear if you’ve got any fun recipes or wild stories about your own experiences with this diet. Let’s make this journey a little more flavorful together!
